Mission
The Pediatric Respiratory Care Initiative™ (PRCI® ) is a multicomponent educational program on pediatric respiratory disorders designed for pediatricians, infectious disease specialists, allergists, immunologists, primary care physicians, and other health care professionals
involved in the care and management of pediatric respiratory patients. PRCI programs address issues concerning respiratory syncytial virus and other respiratory tract infections and disorders. Methods to prevent, control, and treat respiratory illnesses are also evaluated.
Learning Objectives
After completion of PRCI programs, participants should be better able to:
- Implement the AAP guidelines for the treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), with a specific focus on identification, prevention, and treatment of infants and children at high-risk for developing the virus
- Describe the preventive measures to eliminate or reduce the exposure to settings where respiratory viruses may be transmitted
- Compare the mechanism of action, efficacy, and safety of pharmacotherapeutic agents for the management of pediatric respiratory disorders and discuss the role each agent plays in patient management
- Identify the epidemiological features and long-term effects of pediatric respiratory disorders
- Explain the link between RSV and recurrent wheezing through early adolescence
- Examine future directions in pediatric respiratory care and treatment
