Robert B. Belshe, MD, is Dianna and J. Joseph Adorjan Endowed Chair of Infectious Diseases and Immunology; professor of internal medicine, pediatrics, and molecular microbiology; and director of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri. He is also the director of the Vaccine Center at Saint Louis University. In addition, Dr Belshe serves as cochair of the Education Council for the Pediatric Respiratory Care Initiative™.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, the American College of Physicians, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, Dr Belshe is a recent recipient of the Outstanding Communicators Award given by the Saint Louis Science Academy. Dr Belshe’s main research interests include vaccines, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza, and virology. He has contributed more than 300 publications on these and other related topics to the scientific literature and has actively participated in studies involving live attenuated RSV, parainfluenza, and influenza vaccines.

Dr Belshe received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He trained as an intern and resident at the University of Illinois Hospital and as a fellow in infectious diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Bethesda, Maryland.
