Caroline B. Hall, MD, is professor of pediatrics and medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York. Dr Hall also serves as cochair of the Education Council for the Pediatric Respiratory Care Initiative™.
Her research focuses on respiratory viruses, the human herpes viruses 6 and 7, and vaccines, resulting in over 500 published articles. Dr Hall’s national positions have included government committees; president of the Pediatric Diseases Society; member of the American Board of Pediatrics; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC’s) Advisory Committee of Immunization Practices; the Infectious Diseases Society of America; the National Academies of Science; the Board of Scientific Counselors, National Center of Infectious Diseases; the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Subboard; and the Red Book Committee (COID) for 9 years and chairman for 4 years. Dr Hall has been elected to The Institute of Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians and has received the American Academy of Pediatrics Award for Lifetime Contribution to Infectious Diseases Education, the Pan American Society of Virology Award, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society Distinguished Physician Award, the R.M. Chanock Lifetime Achievement Award, many teaching awards, and has been named among the Best Doctors in America and among the top 20 women physicians in America.
After graduating from Wellesley College in Massachusetts, Dr Hall received her medical degree from the University of Rochester Medical School and completed her residency at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She then completed fellowships in infectious diseases and allergy-immunology at Yale and spent 2 years on a research grant in Japan.
